On one fateful day in February 2023, mew mew Mimi and mew mew Ava began a weeklong suffering, undergoing a grotesque transformation of mind, body, and soul. Surviving forbidden horrors, they mutated into a hybrid form that defied scientific categorization by man. From their head full of luscious hair sprung soft fuzzy cat ears; in the crevice adorning their jopping buttocks—a whimsical cat tail. Their DNA was no longer fully human. They tried to live life as they had, but soon found themselves struck in an isolating existence. Their new bodies faced fear and disgust. “MONSTERS, DEVILS, VIRUS, SUBHUMAN, FURRIES!” Perhaps this was how people always thought of them, but their transformation forced this once hidden hatred out into the open. Oh, did the insults become increasingly hurtful! As the two were no longer viewed as human, many found legal loopholes in order to persecute them, and so the two eventually found themselves shivering in a dark alleyway where everyone said they belonged. “How will we live? How will we love?” mew mew mimi and mew mew ava mewled mournfully. Teardrops twinkled delicately as they lapped themselves clean. No one, not even God him/her/themselves cared to spare a moment of pity on them. Such despair only fell upon empty, fur less ears—what a cruel world indeed! With only each other to rely upon, they came to a realization with shocking clarity: the key to their liberation lay not in seeking acceptance from others, but in embracing their mutated and inhuman selves. Thus, CATGIRL VIRUS was born out of necessary action in order to survive and find joy in a world that seeks to belittle their existence. Together, their work experiments with themes of orientalism, pop-culture, queerness, patriarchy, belonging, self-realization/determination, and transformation through a light hearted and often comical way. They seek to help others find comfort within themselves through addressing these themes. You too may be a CATGIRL nya~
